ABSTRACT The increasing demand for using microorganisms in agriculture to improve food production requires constantly assessing microbial diversity. This study aimed to investigate the biochemical properties of individual and combined multifunctional microorganisms, as well as to identify potential applications in biotechnology or agriculture. The experiment comprised 29 treatments, with 7 single and 21 combined microorganisms: M01 (Serratia marcescens), M02 (Bacillus toyonensis), M03 (Phanerochaete australis), M04 (Trichoderma koningiopsis), M05 (Azospirillum brasilense), M06 (Azospirillum sp.), M07 (Bacillus sp.), M08 to M28 (combination among these microorganisms) and M29 (control - no microorganisms). All the single and combined treatments assimilated nitrogen, produced siderophores and indoleacetic acid and solubilized phosphate. Only the treatments M04, M13 and M26 produced HCN. Additionally, all treatments, except for M03, produced biofilm. Only M03, M07, M09, M10, M12 and M13 solubilized potassium.

RESUMO A crescente demanda pelo uso de micro-organismos na agricultura para melhorar a produção de alimentos exige uma avaliação constante da diversidade microbiana. Objetivou-se investigar as propriedades bioquímicas de micro-organismos multifuncionais individuais e combinados, bem como identificar aplicações potenciais em biotecnologia ou agricultura. O experimento compreendeu 29 tratamentos, com 7 micro-organismos isolados e 21 combinações: M01 (Serratia marcescens), M02 (Bacillus toyonensis), M03 (Phanerochaete australis), M04 (Trichoderma koningiopsis), M05 (Azospirillum brasilense), M06 (Azospirillum sp.), M07 (Bacillus sp.), M08 a M28 (combinação entre esses micro-organismos) e M29 (controle - sem micro-organismos). Todos os tratamentos individuais e combinados assimilaram nitrogênio, produziram sideróforos e ácido indolacético e solubilizaram fosfato. Apenas os tratamentos M04, M13 e M26 produziram HCN. Adicionalmente, todos os tratamentos, exceto M03, produziram biofilme. Somente M03, M07, M09, M10, M12 e M13 solubilizaram potássio.

ABSTRACT The search for cultivation techniques that provide productive, social and environmental benefits to the agroecosystem is of great seriousness for the sustainable intensification of agriculture. This study aimed to determine the effect of crop cover crops on the soil attributes and development of bean plants treated with the consortium of bioagents Serratia marcencens + Trichoderma koningiopsis grown in the winter. The experiments were conducted for three crop seasons, in a randomized blocks design arranged in a 2 × 8 factorial scheme, with four replications. The treatments consisted of the combination of eight cover crops with two microbial treatments. The bioagents and the mix of cover crops, especially the treatment 2 (corn) and the mixes 3 (millet, Crotalaria ochroleuca, black oat, white oat, buckwheat and coracana grass) and 5 (black oat, buckwheat, millet, Piatã grass and C. Ocholeuca), provided significant increases in the soil chemical and biological quality, with increases in the contents of Ca, Mg, K, H + Al and organic matter, as well as in the main soil pathogens that affect the bean crop, concerning fallow. In addition, there was an increase in the number of pods per plant and grains per pod. The use of these technologies provided savings, if compared to the use of chemical fertilization.

RESUMO A busca por técnicas de cultivo que proporcionem benefícios produtivos, sociais e ambientais ao agroecossistema é de grande seriedade para a intensificação sustentável da agricultura. Objetivou-se determinar o efeito de coberturas vegetais nos atributos do solo e no desenvolvimento de feijoeiro tratado com o consórcio de bioagentes Serratia marcencens + Trichoderma koningiopsis, em cultivo de inverno. Os experimentos foram conduzidos por três safras agrícolas, com delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 2 x 8, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos pela combinação de oito coberturas vegetais e dois tratamentos microbianos. Os bioagentes e a mistura de plantas de cobertura, especialmente o tratamento 2 (milho) e as misturas 3 (milheto, Crotalaria ochroleuca, aveia preta, aveia branca, trigo mourisco e capim coracana) e 5 (aveia preta, trigo mourisco, milheto, capim Piatã e C. ochroleuca), proporcionaram aumentos significativos na qualidade química e biológica do solo, com aumento nos teores de Ca, Mg, K, H + Al e matéria orgânica, bem como dos principais patógenos do solo que afetam a cultura do feijoeiro, em relação ao pousio. Além disso, houve aumento no número de vagens por planta e de grãos por vagem. O uso dessas tecnologias proporcionou economia, em relação ao uso da adubação química.

RESUMO A inoculação e coinoculação da soja por rizobactérias multifuncionais é uma alternativa sustentável que pode contribuir com o crescimento das plantas e com o aumento da produção agrícola, tornando o produto mais competitivo e, ainda, diminuir os custos para o produtor. Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da inoculação e coinoculação com rizobactérias multifuncionais Serratia sp. e Bacillus sp. no desenvolvimento inicial da soja. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com 4 tratamentos e 10 repetições, totalizando 40 parcelas experimentais. Os tratamentos consistiram na microbiolização das sementes de soja e tratamento controle: isolado BRM 32114 (Serratia sp.); isolado BRM 63573 (Bacillus sp.) (antes nomeado 1301); coinoculação com BRM 32114 + BRM 63573; e controle (sem microbiolização). BRM 32114 e BRM 63753 isolados e combinados foram eficientes para melhorar o desenvolvimento inicial de plântulas da soja, proporcionando efeitos significativos para a maioria das variáveis analisadas (comprimento, superfície total, volume de raiz e biomassa de raiz, parte aérea e total), quando comparados ao tratamento controle.

ABSTRACT Soybean inoculation and co-inoculation with multifunctional rhizobacteria is a sustainable alternative that may contribute to plant growth and increased agricultural production, making the product more competitive, as well as reducing costs for the producer. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculation and co-inoculation with multifunctional Serratia sp. and Bacillus sp. rhizobacteria on the early development of soybean. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with four treatments and ten replicates, totaling 40 experimental plots. The treatments consisted of the microbiolization of soybean seeds and a control treatment: BRM 32114 (Serratia sp.) isolate; BRM 63573 (Bacillus sp.) isolate (formerly named 1301); co-inoculation with BRM 32114 + BRM 63573; and control (without microbiolization). BRM 32114 and BRM 63753, both isolated and combined, were eficient to improve the initial development of soybean seedlings, providing significant effects for most of the analyzed variables (length, total surface, root volume and root, shoot and total biomass), when compared to the control treatment.

RESUMO O uso de calcário filler no sulco de semeadura, aliada à adubação nitrogenada em cobertura, é uma prática pouco utilizada e seus efeitos sobre os atributos químicos do solo e produtividade do feijão comum necessitam ser estudados. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar o efeito da aplicação de calcário filler no sulco de semeadura, juntamente com a adubação nitrogenada de cobertura, na produtividade do feijão-comum, cultivar Pérola, irrigado por pivô-central, cultivado no Cerrado. Os experimentos de campo foram conduzidos por três safras consecutivas, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições, no esquema fatorial 2x4, sendo duas doses de nitrogênio em cobertura (zero e 60 kg ha-1 de N) e quatro doses de cálcario filler no sulco de semeadura (0; 200; 400 e 600 kg ha-1 de CaCO3). Foram avaliados o número de plantas (NP), número de vagens (NV), número de grãos (NG), massa de 100 grãos (M100) e a produção de grãos (PG). O uso de 60 kg ha-1 de N proporcionou maior M100 e GY. O incremento nas doses de calcário filler no sulco de semeadura proporcionou redução no NV. A aplicação de 200 kg ha-1 de calcário filler proporcionou os maiores valores de NG e M100 e, quando combinada com a adubação nitrogenada em cobertura, proporcionou maior PG do feijão-comum.

ABSTRACT The use of filler liming in the sowing furrow can improve the chemical characteristics of the soil and, together with nitrogen fertilization, increase common bean yield. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of filler liming of the sowing furrow along with nitrogen topdressing fertilization on the yield of common bean, cultivar Pérola, irrigated by central pivot, in the Cerrado Region. The field experiments were conducted for three consecutive cropping years, in a randomized block design with four replications, in a 2x4 factorial scheme, consisting of two doses of nitrogen topdressing fertilization (zero and 60 kg ha-1 of N) and four doses of filler liming application in the sowing furrow (0, 200, 400 and 600 kg ha-1 of CaCO3). The plant density (PD), number of pods (NP), number of grains (NG), mass of 100 grains (M100) and, grain yield (GY) were evaluated. The use of 60 kg ha-1 of N provided greater M100 and GY. The increase of the filler liming doses in the sowing furrow led to a reduction of the NP. The filler liming dose of 200 kg ha-1 provided higher values of NG and M100, and when combined with the nitrogen topdressing fertilization, improved the GY of the common bean.

RESUMO Plantas de cobertura podem proporcionar supressão de plantas daninhas e juntamente com o controle químico compor o manejo adequado de plantas daninhas nas áreas agrícolas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o efeito do cultivo de plantas de cobertura durante a entressafra sobre o desenvolvimento de plantas daninhas em área de plantio direto. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com seis tratamentos e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos das seguintes coberturas vegetais: 1. pousio (testemunha), 2. milheto (Pennisetum glaucum) + crotalárias (Crotalaria spectabilis + C. juncea + C. ochroleuca), 3. milheto + feijão-guandu (Cajanus cajans), 4. milheto + Urochloa ruziziensis, 5. milheto + Urochloa ruziziensis + feijão-guandu e 6. milheto + trigo mourisco (Fagopyrum esculentum). As avaliações foram realizadas aos 30, 75 e 225 dias após a semeadura (DAS) das plantas de cobertura. As principais plantas daninhas na área foram Cenchrus echinathus, Euphorbia heterophylla e Digitaria insularis. A área de pousio apresentou a maior quantidade, número de espécies e produção de matéria seca de plantas daninhas com densidade de 184 plantas m-2, 9,0 espécies e 527,8 g m-2 de matéria seca aos 225 DAS. Em todos os tratamentos com plantas de cobertura constatou-se que reduziu a densidade e a massa seca das plantas daninhas em comparação com o pousio, com média de 30 plantas m-2, 5,8 espécies m-1 e 7,9 g m-2 aos 225 DAS, respectivamente. Constata-se que o uso de plantas de cobertura é importante estratégia para o controle de plantas daninhas nas áreas agrícolas.

ABSTRACT Cover crops can provide suppression of weeds and together with chemical control make the proper management of weeds in agricultural areas. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cover crop cultivation during the off-season on weed development in a no-tillage area. The experimental design was in randomized blocks scheme with six treatments and four replications. The treatments were: fallow (control), millet (Pennisetum glaucum) + crotalaria (Crotalaria spectabilis + C. juncea + C. ochroleuca), millet + pigeon pea (Cajanus cajans), millet + Urochloa ruziziensis, millet + Urochloa ruziziensis + pigeon pea and millet + buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum. The evaluations were done at 30, 75 and 225 days after sowing of the cover crops (DAS). The main growth weed species in the area were Cenchrus echinathus, Euphorbia heterophylla and Digitaria insularis. Fallow treatment showed greater number of weed species with density of 184 plants m-2, 9.0 species and with 527.8 g m-2 of dry matter mass at 225 DAS. In all treatments verified reduction in the density and mass of weeds dry matter compared to the fallow, with average of 30 plants m-2, 5.8 species and 7.9 g m-2 at 225 DAS, respectively. The use of cover crops is an important strategy for weed control in agricultural areas.

ABSTRACT. The high price of rice hybrid seeds is one of the major limiting factors for increasing the use of this technology. An important step toward minimizing high rice hybrid seed cost is developing techniques that help improve hybrid seed yield. Our goal was to determine the proportion of seeds of line A (receptor) and line R (pollinator) that, under mixed sowing, would allow optimized rice hybrid seed production and grain quality. Trials were performed for two growing seasons in the southern region of Brazil. The cultivar INTA Puita was used as a pollinator and line 464 A as receptor. The experimental design was a randomized block with four replications. Treatments included six proportions of seeds of the INTA Puita (0.75, 1.5, 3.0, 6.0, 12.0, and 24.00%) mixture with seeds of line 464 A (99.25, 98.50, 97.00, 94.00, 88.00, and 76%, respectively). By increasing the percentage of the pollinator seeds (INTA Puita CL) from 0.75 to 24% in the mixture with the receptor (line 464 A), we increased yield of INTA Puita CL grains (7 to 2676 kg ha-1) and hybrid seeds (279 to 1493 kg ha-1). The mixture of different proportions of INTA Puita CL (pollinator) with the receptor (line 464 A) did not change the rice grain quality or the production cost. The cost of production per kg of hybrid seeds decreased quadratically with the increasing percentage of the pollinator (INTA Puita CL), from US$ 6.71 to US$ 1.23. Revenue achieved from the commercialization of the grains of INTA Puita CL with hybrid seeds 464 A showed quadratic increases with the increased percentage of INTA Puita cl in the mixture. Our results showed a potential technique that could be used to improve hybrid seed production, reduce cost per kg of hybrid seed and improve revenue from producing rice hybrid seeds.

Abstract Background The use of desiccant herbicides can allow the anticipation of common bean harvesting by providing a reduction in the humidity of plants and grains. Objective Determine the effect of doses of desiccant herbicides on the moisture content of the plants (stems, leaves and grains), in the 100 grains mass, grain yield and physiological quality of the seeds of two contrasting common bean cultivars. Methods The experimental design for each cultivar (BRS FC 104, super early cycle, 60 days from sowing to harvesting and BRS Estilo, normal cycle, 90 days from sowing to harvesting) as in randomized blocks in the factorial scheme 4 x 3 x 4, with four replications. Treatments consisted of four herbicides (ammonium glufosinate (200 g L-1 of active ingredient, ai), glyphosate (480 g L-1 of acid equivalent), diquat (200 g L-1 of ai) and paraquat (200 g L-1 of ai), with three doses (200 g L-1, 400 g L-1 and 600 g L-1 of ai per ha for ammonium glufosinate, diquat and paraquat, and 480 g L-1, 960 g L-1 and 1,440 g L-1 of ae per ha for glyphosate) with evaluations of the variables at 0, 3, 5 and 7 days after application of the herbicide. Results All desiccants used provided faster drying of the botanical structures allowing faster harvesting in relation to control plants. The dosage of 200 g L-1 of the ai ha1 in the cultivar BRS FC 104 and 1,440 g L-1 of ae per ha for glyphosate and 600 g L-1 of ai per ha for the others dessicants in the cultivar BRS Estilo were those that provided best plant drying. The use of desiccants in plants of common bean did not affect crop grain yield. The dosage of 600 g L-1 of ai per ha of the ammonium glufosinate desiccant provided a reduction in vigor and normal seedlings and an increase in abnormal seedlings in the cultivar BRS FC 104. Conclusion All desiccant herbicides used allowed anticipation of common bean harvesting.

RESUMO Os sistemas tropicais de produção de arroz inundado requerem uma alta entrada de fertilizantes e defensivos químicos. O uso de rizobactérias promotoras de crescimento de plantas (RPCP), um componente sustentável desse sistema, pode aumentar a eficiência do uso de nutrientes e levar a aumentos significativos no rendimento de grãos das culturas tropicais de arroz inundado. Este estudo teve como objetivo determinar o efeito do microrganismo BRM 32110 (Bacillus thuringiensis) em combinação com doses aplicaas de nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P) e potássio (K) no desempenho fisiológico e agronômico de plantas de arroz inundadas no ambiente tropical. Os ensaios foram realizados na safra agrícola 2016/2017 em Formoso do Araguaia, cidade no estado do Tocantins, Brasil. Três experimentos independentes (E1, E2 e E3) foram realizados em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 4 x 2, com três repetições. E1 compreendeu quatro doses aplicadas de N (0, 40, 80 e 120 kg N ha-1) com e sem a adição de BRM 32110, E2 compreendeu quatro doses aplicadas de P2O5 (0, 40, 80 e 120 kg de P2O5 ha-1) com ou sem BRM 32110, e E3 compreendeu quatro taxas de aplicação de K2O (0, 20, 40 e 60 kg K2O ha-1) com e sem BRM 32110. Em solo fértil, não houve interações entre a rizobacteria BRM 32110 e taxas aplicadas de N, P ou K. O BRM 32110 melhorou a captação de nutrientes e, em média, aumentou a matéria seca da parte aérea em 8%, a taxa de fotossíntese em 14% e a produtividade de grãos em 11% nas plantas de arroz inundadas. Nossos resultados sugerem que o uso de microrganismos multifuncionais é uma boa estratégia para melhorar o rendimento de grãos de arroz inundado de forma sustentável.

ABSTRACT Tropical flooded rice production systems require a high input of fertilizers and chemical defensive. The use of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), a sustainable component of this system, can increase nutrient-use efficiency and lead to significant increases in the grain yield of tropical flooded rice crop. This study aimed to determine the effect of the microorganism BRM 32110 (Bacillus thuringiensis) in combination with nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) application rates on the physiological and agronomic performance of tropical flooded rice plants. Trials were performed in the 2016/2017 growing season in Formoso do Araguaia, a city in Tocantins state, Brazil. Three independent experiments (E1, E2, and E3) were performed in a randomized block design in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme with three replications. E1 comprised four N application rates (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg N ha-1) with and without the addition of BRM 32110, E2 comprised four P2O5 application rates (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg P2O5 ha-1) with or without BRM 32110, and E3 comprised four K2O application rates (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg K2O ha-1) with and without BRM 32110. In fertile soil, there were no interactions between the rhizobacterium BRM 32110 and the N, P or K application rates. BRM 32110 improved nutrient uptake and, on average, increased shoot dry matter by 8%, photosynthesis rate by 14% and grain yield by 11% in the flooded rice plants. Our results suggest that the use of multifunctional microorganisms is a good strategy for improving flooded rice grain yield sustainably.

RESUMO O uso de microrganismos benéficos nos sistemas de cultivo pode contribuir para a agricultura sustentável, promovendo melhorias no desenvolvimento das culturas e na produção de grãos sem danificar o meio ambiente. No entanto, há muita incerteza quanto aos efeitos do uso de uma combinação de microrganismos para promover o desenvolvimento da planta. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar os efeitos das espécies de microrganismos individualmente e em combinação na produção de biomassa, trocas gasosas e conteúdo de nutrientes na parte aérea e raízes das plantas de soja. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com 30 tratamentos e três repetições. Os tratamentos consistiram na aplicação das rizobactérias BRM 32109, BRM 32110 e 1301 (Bacillus sp.); BRM 32111 e BRM 32112 (Pseudomonas sp.); BRM 32113 (Burkholderia sp.); BRM 32114 (Serratia sp.); Ab-V5 (Azospirillum brasilense) e 1381 (Azospirillum sp.); o fungo Trichoderma asperellum (uma mistura dos isolados UFRA. T06, UFRA. T09, UFRA. T12 e UFRA. T52); 19 combinações desses microrganismos e um controle (sem microrganismos). Na semeadura, o solo foi tratado com Bradyrhizobium e as sementes de soja foram inoculadas. A suspensão de microrganismos foi aplicada em cada tratamento aos 7 dias após o plantio (DAP) no solo e aos 21 DAP nas mudas. Os tratamentos pool de Trichoderma, Ab-V5, 1301 + 32110, 1301 + 32114, 1301 + Ab-V5 e 32110 + Ab-V5 resultaram em acúmulo de biomassa total significativamente maior nas plantas de soja, com valores, em média, 25% superior ao tratamento controle. Nossos resultados sugerem que o uso de microrganismos benéficos em sistemas de cultivo é uma técnica promissora.

ABSTRACT The use of beneficial microorganisms in crop systems can contribute to sustainable agriculture by promoting improvements in crop development and grain yield without damaging the environment. However, there is much uncertainty surrounding the effects of using a combination of microorganisms to promote plant development. The objective of this work was to determine the effects of microorganism species individually and in combination on the biomass production, gas exchange and nutrient contents in the shoots and roots of soybean plants. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 30 treatments and three replicates. The treatments consisted of the application of the rhizobacteria BRM 32109, BRM 32110 and 1301 (Bacillussp.); BRM 32111 and BRM 32112 (Pseudomonas sp.); BRM 32113 (Burkholderia sp.); BRM 32114 (Serratia sp.); Ab-V5 (Azospirillum bras ilense) and 1381 (Azospirillum sp.); the fungus Trichoderma asperellum (a mixture of the isolates UFRA. T06, UFRA. T09, UFRA. T12 and UFRA. T52); 19 combinations of these microorganisms, and a control (no microorganisms). At sowing, the soil was treated with Bradyrhizobium, and then the soybean seeds were inoculated. The microorganism suspension was applied in each treatment at 7 days after planting (DAP) in the soil and at 21 DAP on the seedlings. The Trichoderma pool, Ab-V5, 1301 + 32110, 1301 + 32114, 1301 + Ab-V5 and 32110 + Ab-V5 treatments resulted in significantly higher total biomass accumulation in the soybean plants, with values that were, on average, 25% higher than that in the control treatment. Our results suggest that the use of beneficial microorganisms in cropping systems is a promising technique.

RESUMO Microrganismos multifuncionais podem contribuir significativamente para melhorar o desempenho das plantas, sendo tecnologia inovadora quando se visa o desenvolvimento sustentável. Assim, objetivou-se determinar o efeito de microrganismos multifuncionais aplicados isolados ou em mix sobre o desempenho do arroz de terras altas. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. Os 26 tratamentos consistiram das rizobactérias Bacillus sp. (BRM 32109, BRM 32110 e 1301), Azospirillum sp. (1381), Azospirillum brasilense (Ab-V5), Pseudomonas sp. (BRM 32112), Pseudomonas fluorescens (BRM 32111), Burkholderia pyrrocinia (BRM 32113), Serratia sp. (BRM 32114), e um gênero fúngico formando um pool de Trichoderma asperellum (T-06, T-09, T-12, e T-52), aplicados isoladamente ou em consórcio, mais o tratamento controle, sem aplicação de microrganismos. Os tratamentos mais efetivos foram os mixes de microrganismos 1301 + Ab-V5 e BRM 32114 + pool de Trichoderma asperellum, uma vez que proporcionaram aumento, em média, de 123% e 88% no número de panículas e de 206 e 167% na produtividade de grão do arroz de terras altas, respectivamente. Os consórcios 1301 + Ab-V5, BRM 32114 + pool de Trichoderma asperellum, BRM 32110 + BRM 32114, BRM 32110 + Ab-V5, 1301 + BRM 32110 e 1381 + pool de Trichoderma asperellum, também proporcionaram maior desempenho morfofisiológico nas plantas de arroz (taxa fotossintética, eficiência de carboxilação, número de perfilhos, biomassa seca de parte aérea e teor de nutrientes na parte aérea e raiz das plantas). Portanto, o uso de microrganismos multifuncionais no manejo do arroz de terras altas foi eficiente em sua capacidade de proporcionar maior desenvolvimento das plantas.

ABSTRACT Multifunctional microorganisms can contribute significantly to improve plant performance and are innovative technology for sustainable development. Thus, objective of this study was to determine the effect of bioagents applied alone or in mix on the performance of upland rice. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in a completely randomized design with four replications. The 26 treatments consisted of the rhizobacteria Bacillus sp. (BRM 32109, BRM 32110 and 1301), Azospirillum sp. (1381), Azospirillum brasilense (Ab-V5), Pseudomonas sp. (BRM 32112), Pseudomonas fluorescens (BRM 32111), Burkholderia pyrrocinia (BRM 32113), Serratia sp. (BRM 32114), and a fungal genus formed by a pool of Trichoderma asperellum (T-06, T-09, T-12, and T-52), applied alone or in mix, plus a control treatment without microorganism application. The most effective treatments were the mixes of microorganisms 1301 + Ab-V5 and BRM 32114 + pool of Trichoderma asperellum, as they provided an average increase of 123 and 88% in the number of panicles and 206 and 167% in the grain yield of upland rice plants, respectively. Mixes of 1301 + Ab-V5, BRM 32114 + Trichoderma asperellum pool, BRM 32110 + BRM 32114, BRM 32110 + Ab-V5, 1301 + BRM 32110 and 1381 + Trichoderma asperellum pool also provided better morphophysiological performance in rice plants (photosynthetic rate, carboxylation efficiency, number of tillers, shoot dry biomass and nutrient content in shoot and root). Therefore, the use of multifunctional microorganisms in the management of upland rice was efficient in its ability to provide better development of plants.

Abstract The objective of this research was to identify the best microorganisms, alone or in mixture for total biomass gain (root + shoot), positive change in gas exchange, nutrient uptake (root, shoot and grain) and yield and yield components in the soybean crop. Trial under greenhouse conditions had the experimental design in a completely randomized scheme with 26 treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of the rhizobacteria BRM 32109, BRM 32110 and 1301 (Bacillus sp.), BRM 32111 and BRM 32112 (Pseudomonas sp.), BRM 32113 (Burkholderia sp.), BRM 32114 (Serratia sp.), Ab-V5 (Azospirillum brasilense) and 1381 (Azospirillum sp.), and the fungus Trichoderma asperellum (a mix of the isolates UFRA.T06, UFRA.T09, UFRA.T12 and UFRA.T52). Besides, the same isolates were combined in pairs, completing 16 combinations. Control treatments received no microorganism. Microorganisms applied isolated or in combination, provided biomass gain, positive gas exchange, increases in nutrients uptake at the shoot and grain, and improved grain yield and its components than control plants. Stood out the combination Ab-V5 + T. asperellum pool, which provided a 25% improvement in grain yield.

RESUMO A presença de palha dificulta a semeadura de soja cultivada em sucessão a arroz, em áreas irrigadas por inundação. Objetivou-se avaliar a combinação de configurações de colhedora de arroz e operações subsequentes na demanda operacional e energética do manejo da palha de arroz e na rugosidade superficial do solo, visando ao cultivo da soja em sucessão. Foram conduzidos três experimentos independentes, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, e avaliados o consumo de combustível, a velocidade operacional efetiva e a capacidade de trabalho, bem como a rugosidade superficial final do terreno. Os gastos energéticos na colheita do arroz não se elevam quando a colhedora automotriz opera com espalhador para distribuir a palha sobre o terreno e evitar a formação de leiras. A presença de restos de plantas de arroz na lavoura eleva o patinamento do trator no tracionamento do rolo-faca, com consequente redução da velocidade operacional, mas isso não afeta a capacidade de trabalho e o consumo de combustível. O aumento do número de gradagens leves, de uma para duas operações, em áreas trabalhadas com rolo-faca ou com grade intermediária, demanda mais tempo e combustível no manejo do solo e da palha de arroz; porém, deixa o terreno com menos rugosidade superficial. O sistema de manejo com rolo-faca e duas gradagens leves é o método mais adequado para preparar o solo para o cultivo de soja em sucessão a arroz, pois proporciona a melhor combinação de desempenho técnico e energético.

ABSTRACT The presence of straw hinders the sowing of soybean cultivated in succession to rice, in areas irrigated by flooding. This study aimed to evaluate the combination of different configurations of a rice harvester and subsequent activities in the operational and energetic demand of rice straw management and in the soil surface roughness, in order to cultivate soybean in succession. Three independent experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design, as well as evaluated the fuel consumption, effective operating speed, working capacity and final surface roughness of the ground. The energy costs of harvesting rice do not increase when the automated harvester operates with a spreader to distribute the straw on the ground and to avoid the formation of furrows. The presence of rice plant residues in the field increases the skidding of the tractor when pulling the knife-roller, with a consequent reduction of the operating speed, but this does not affect the operational capacity and the fuel consumption. The increase in the number of light harrowings, from one to two operations, in areas worked with knife-roller or intermediate harrow, requires more time and fuel in the management of the soil and rice straw, but leaves the ground with less surface roughness. The management system with knife-roller operation and two light harrowings is the most appropriate method to prepare the soil for soybean cultivation after rice, because it provides the best combination of technical and energetic performance.

RESUMO A fim de obter uma produção ótima e sustentável, os produtores precisam conhecer a taxa de aplicação de potássio (K) e fósforo (P) fertilizante. Objetivou-se determinar o desenvolvimento de arroz, em resposta a taxas combinadas de P e K, em Plintosolos (380-400 g kg-1 de argila), em condições de fertilidade alta e baixa, na planície irrigável tropical do rio Araguaia. Foram instalados três experimentos, sendo que cada um deles consistiu em delineamento fatorial em blocos casualizados, com três repetições. Os tratamentos incluíram a combinação de seis doses de K2O (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 e 150 kg ha-1) com seis doses de P2O5 (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 e 150 kg ha-1). Não foi observado efeito da interação entre doses de P e K nas variáveis analisadas em nenhum nível de fertilidade/ano. A aplicação de P sob condição de baixa fertilidade, bem como de K sob alta fertilidade, afetam a nutrição da cultura de forma geral, capacidade de perfilhamento, componentes da produtividade e rendimento de grãos de arroz de terras baixas, embora não tenha sido observado efeito da aplicação de P em área de alta fertilidade e K na área de baixa fertilidade. Na condição de alta fertilidade, a taxa de incremento de rendimento de grãos devida à aplicação de K foi de 4,04 kg ha-1, e na condição de baixa fertilidade, como áreas recém-abertas, a produtividade máxima foi de 7.161 kg ha-1, quando aplicados 140 kg ha-1 de P.

ABSTRACT In order to reach an optimum and sustainable production, growers must know the fertilizing potassium (K) and phosphorous (P) application rates. The present study aimed to determine the rice development in response to combined rates of P and K, on Plinthaquults (380-400 g kg-1 of clay), under high and low fertility conditions, in the tropical lowland plain of the Araguaia river, Brazil. Three field experiments were performed, each one consisting of a completely randomized factorial block design, with three replications. Treatments included a combination of six K2O rates (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 and 150 kg ha-1) with six P2O5 rates (0 kg ha-1, 30 kg ha-1, 60 kg ha-1, 90 kg ha-1, 120 kg ha-1 and 150 kg ha-1). No interaction effect between P and K rates was observed for the evaluated variables in any fertility level/year. Phosphorous application under low fertility conditions, as well as K under high fertility conditions, affect overall crop nutrition, tillering capacity, yield components and grain yield of lowland rice, though no effects were observed due to the P application in high fertility soils and K in low fertility soils. Under high fertility conditions, the grain yield increment rate due to the K application was 4.04 kg ha-1, whereas in the low fertility areas, such as recently cleared fields, a maximum yield of 7,161 kg ha-1 was achieved by applying 140 kg ha-1 of P.

Resumo: Objetivou-se com o presente estudo quantificar a distribuição longitudinal de plantas na linha e profundidade da semente no solo e seus efeitos no comprimento e diâmetro do hipocótilo, nos componentes de produção e produtividade de grãos de feijão-comum, cultivar BRSMG Realce, em latossolo do Cerrado. Os dados da distância entre plantas na linha foram obtidos em campo com o auxílio de trena em quatro linhas de feijão de 2,5 m de comprimento. A profundidade de semeadura foi determinada medindo-se o comprimento do hipocótilo dentro do solo após o arranquio da planta. O diâmetro do hipocótilo foi avaliado ao nível do solo utilizando-se paquímetro digital. Os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva (univariada). Estabeleceram-se correlações lineares entre a distribuição da distância entre plantas na linha, da profundidade de semeadura e as características do hipocótilo e dados de produtividade de grãos do feijão-comum. Observou-se regressão linear negativa da produtividade de grãos com profundidade de semeadura e positiva com diâmetro do hipocótilo e espaçamento longitudinal entre plantas na linha. Especial atenção deve ser dada no processo de semeadura para evitar distribuição desuniforme de plantas da linha de semeadura e na profundidade da semente para evitar reduções na produtividade.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to quantify the longitudinal distribution of plants in the row and seed depth and their effects on hypocotyl length and diameter and on yield components and grain yield of common bean, specifically the cultivar BRSMG Realce in a Latossolo soil in the Cerrado (Brazilian tropical savanna). The data on plant distances in the row were obtained in the field with the aid of a measuring tape in four rows of 2.5 m length. Seed depth was determined by measuring the length of the hypocotyl that was within the soil after pulling up the plant. Hypocotyl diameter was evaluated at ground level using a digital caliper. Descriptive (univariate) statistical analysis was applied to the data. Linear correlations were established among distribution of distance between plants in the row, the depth of sowing, the characteristics of the hypocotyls, and grain yield data of common bean. Negative linear regression was observed between grain yield with sowing depth, and positive linear regression between hypocotyl diameter and longitudinal spacing between plants in the row. In the sowing process, special attention should be given to seed distribution in the row to avoid subsequent uneven plant distribution and to seed depth to avoid yield loss.

RESUMO. Existe carência de informação na região tropical sobre a interação entre calcário, fosfogesso (FG) e adubação na fertilidade do solo e seu efeito na produção do feijão-comum. O estudo objetivou determinar o efeito da aplicação anual de PG e calcário e níveis de adubação nos atributos químicos do solo, eficiência de fertilização, componentes de produção e rendimento de grãos do feijão-comum. A pesquisa foi realizada em três safras agrícolas em Latossolo vermelho ácrico. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 4x4. Os tratamentos consistiram na combinação de calcário, calcário + FG, FG e controle (sem corretivo) com quatro níveis de adubação. Em solo argiloso ácido e de baixa fertilidade do Cerrado, o parcelamento da dose de calcário ou calcário + FG com aplicação de 1/3 anualmente em SPD aumenta a produtividade do feijoeiro e a eficiência da adubação, embora a melhoria dos indicadores de acidez do solo não alcance os níveis desejados. A aplicação de fertilizantes solúveis para fornecer quantidades adequadas e equilibradas de nutrientes proporciona ganhos mais expressivos de produtividade e melhoria da fertilidade do solo, em comparação com a calagem superficial, mas a combinação das duas práticas resulta nos maiores benefícios para ambos, planta e solo.

ABSTRACT. There is a lack of information about the effects of interactions among lime, phosphogypsum (PG) and fertilization on soil fertility and their effects on common bean yields in the tropics. This study aimed to determine the effects of annual application of PG and limestone and rates of fertilization on the chemical attributes of soil, fertilization efficiency, yield components and the grain yield of the common bean. The study was performed for three growing seasons in an acidic Oxisol. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a 4x4 factorial scheme. The treatments consisted of lime, lime + PG, PG, and control (without corrective application) with four fertilization rates. In an acidic and low-fertility Cerrado soil, limestone or limestone + PG applied annually at 1/3 of the total rate in a no tillage system increased the common bean yield and the efficiency of the fertilization, although the improvement of the soil acidity indicators did not reach the desired levels. The application of soluble fertilizers to provide adequate and balanced amounts of nutrients provided greater yield gains and improved soil fertility compared to surface liming without fertilization, but the combination of the two practices resulted in the greatest benefits to both plant and soil fertility.
